Starlink Italy Review – Tuscany 2024

Our Experience using Starlink instead local Internet providers was not a straightforward choice, we published this article about Starlink Italy and why we choose this solution.
Many articles are been provided on this topic on the internet and social medias, of course there is no need to have this technology if you have fibre connection or a high speed cooper connection in your location.
We where using fibre on our previous place but unfortunately this is not the case on the actual location.
This article descripts that in some part of Italy nearest fibre connection struggle to have a descend internet connection.

What is Starlink & How is Starlink different?

Not everyone could connect to the internet because they live in places where there is no internet service or it is too slow or the infrastructure is to expensive to provide the connection.
To solve this problem, Starlink is sending thousands of small satellites into space that can communicate with each other and with Communication centre on Earth. These satellites are around the Earth and closer to the earth as any other satellites to allow a quicker communication in between.
They form a network that covers the whole planet like a giant blanket.

With a Starlink device can connect to these satellites and get internet service anywhere you are.
The Starlink Map could help you out finding the available Area worldwide Starlink is still working on making this project happen for everyone.
They are launching more satellites every month and improving their technology. They hope to make the world a better place by giving people access to information, education, entertainment, and communication through the internet.

When we thought to use Starlink Italy -Starlink Tuscany?

There are several reasons why we choose Starlink instead local internet service provider. In our example we have tested 3 local providers with 4 different technologies including cable connection, FWA, 4G and similar local satellite p2p solution

Why we choose Starlink Italy ?

Overall we were not satisfied with any local providers and solution to have a proper internet connection for more than 2 person simultaneously working remotely on data application and VC.

Another reason is the image that shows the connection where Internet is provided to our house that does not need comment. After gathering information from different professional business requires stable internet connection using different solution, none where satisfied about the solution they used locally.

After reading on Social Media that Starlink was covering Italy we tested the 30 days Trial Starlink provided to Italy.

Pro and Cons Starlink

In a nutshell

The delivery was within 2 weeks, after purchased on the Web , installation is right out of the box, the speed is fantastic.
Overall, we cannot give you any Cons we yet experience using Starlink starting 1st January 2023

Starlink changed our way to work remotely, since we worked as nomad and now using it for our new local Business it has over satisfied our expectations , below some points that you might need to consider.

The Pro:

• Starlink offers fast, reliable, internet service across the globe –
• Starlink allows you to engage in activities as streaming, video calls, online gaming, and more
• Starlink is easy to install and you get online in minutes Starlink has no contracts and offers a 30-day trial period for you to test the service
• Starlink lets you travel with your device and access the internet from different locations within your coverage area – Starlink mobile app lets you manage your account, check your connection status, troubleshoot issues, and contact support

The Con:

• Starlink is expensive , the monthly Starlink price (2023) has already reduce from 90 to 50 euro in 2022 40 euro in 2024 (new option Q1 2024 29 euro for a lower speed) but still over local providers prices
• Starlink is virtually , this means no local support, shop , representative physical person, all goes using Starlink Apps and using Chat or Email
• Starlink the electric consumption is high
• Starlink Router has basic configuration and you need to use a different Router to have all options that you might need Of course Starlink has other PRO’s as using it for Business , on Boats, Campers for Digital Nomad ,link to Starlink RV

Starlink Price vs Performance

We could only compare local providers vs Starlink , this of course could change on any other part of Italy or city and worldwide.
Therefor we could only share our experience locally, consider this review and test are been performed at our home and this could have other result in different part of the country.

How fast is Starlink in Tiscany Italy?

On the other hand testing Starlink had less issues and performance was stable for a speed of 200Mbps and upload 20Mbps for 50 40 (2024) Euro monthly charge.

Our Experience and conclusion – Starlink Review

As mentioned before on the PRO vs CON paragraph, the Speed is great and VC is not longer a problem , multiple people could use it at the same time and many devices are now connected. Visitors could use now Internet with no limitation.

Starlink is still growing and for some people it is not a solution as they may have a very good fibre internet local connection, but for many out there not living in big metropolitan city this solution solves most problems.

What Starlink should improve?

The Starlink Router could have some more option as like, setting up a guest Network and prioritize devices. After we have purchased Starlink Italy back in January 2023 we had already 2 updates including one that allows you to schedule power off the system to reduce power consumption. This proves that in the future more updates would be send out to improve end user.

Outage – Error – Support – Upgrades

List is regularly been updated

• January 2023 (Installation day)
  Random on/off connection problem, this was solved on the same day (Support) after 2.5h connection was stable
  
• March 2023
  We experience slow connection speed. Reboot Router solved the problem. Outage 2min
  
• April 2023
  Heavy thunderstorm + strong lightning + hail. Outage 3min
  
• June 2023 We moved and had to uninstall and reinstall our Starlink equipment. The installation was very easy and we also had to extend the cable length ourselves. Overall, everything went smoothly and there were no problems.
  
• 2023 August we setup the Network as Bridge Mode and setup our AP to extend the range Setup the Network as Bridge Mode and setup our AP to extend the range
  
• 2024 One year past since we use Statlink with 99,82% (using 24/7) stable connection, we cannot compare to other local providers as there is no statistics online.We are confident that no local providers reached these numbers.
  
• 2024 New Italy Monthly Price from 50 to 40 Euro
  
• 2024 March new 29 Euro Monthly price for Italian citizen, Lower Speed: This price is for their “Low Priority” plan. Speeds may be slower, especially during peak usage times, compared to their standard plan (which costs more)
